The Web is the largest information source of our society and it is still growing drastically, and the demand for fast, accurate information search over Web grows accordingly. To fulfill such a demand, Web search engine systems have to be capable of searching an enlarging Web and processing a large number of queries. However, current Web search engines are mainly based on centralized architecture, which can not be scalable to the ever-growing Web and the increasing number of users. On the other hand, Peer-to-peer (P2P) systems have emerged as an active research field that combines principles from networking, database, distributed computing, and information retrieval. Different from traditional client-server model, a peer in a P2P system can act as both a server and a client, which has significantly changed the way of online information sharing and distribution. P2P techniques bear the potential to realize information systems that scale to voluminous information on very large numbers of participating nodes. Thus, it is a promising way to combine P2P Computing with Web searching for boosting information search over the Web.

This workshop intends to bring together researchers and practitioners working on P2P based information search (including Web search) from different disciplines. We invite papers that facilitate better understanding of challenges of P2P information search, apply ideas and techniques from different aspects, and propose innovative solutions to those challenges. Papers reporting original research, applications, development of prototypes, industrial experiences, technologies and standards are welcome. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Systems and Architectures for P2P Based Web Search
  • Web Crawling under P2P Environments
  • Distributed Ranking in P2P Networks
  • P2P Information Search Systems and Architectures
  • Models and Query Languages for P2P Information Search
  • Indexing, Caching and Replication Techniques for P2P Search Systems
  • Metadata for P2P Information Search
  • P2P Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery for Information Search
  • Adaptive P2P Information Search
  • Mobile P2P Information Search
  • P2P Multimedia Information Search
  • Security and Robustness in P2P Information Search
  • Efficiency and Scalability in Distributed Information Search
  • P2P Information Retrieval
  • Heterogeneous Distributed Data Integration and Organization
  • Resource Selection and Query Routing
  • Indexing and Retrieval of Dynamic information Sources
  • Keyword Search over Distributed Databases

Papers describing ongoing or completed research and development efforts are sought. Submissions must not exceed 6 pages and the paper must follow IEEE conference format. All accepted papers in P2PSearch will be included in the conference proceedings published by IEEE Computer Society (IEEE CS), included in IEEEXplore database and indexed by EI. Interested authors should electronically submit a PDF file of the paper through the FGCN 2007 Online Submission System.
